It’s Week 3 of the One Room Challenge! SO, I did skip week 2 since I was away on vacation but can ya blame me? We're now at the halfway point which means EEK!
So let's get right to it shall we? Let me tell you a little bit about project Mildred Manor and my lovely clients. They are a young family living in the Toronto area. Honestly, they had me at “Modern, French & Moroccan” Those are some serious words to throw at me, which they used to describe their space. As much as I love a simple Scandinavian interior, my love and appreciation for classic french furniture runs pretty deep. And Moroccan accents? Yes please. One of the many things I love about my job is that I get to decorate and experiment with other styles — and I love so many.
They already have a killer sofa from Style Garage and you may recall the before photo from Week 1:
If you look close enough, the legs of the sofa are gold. We're also keeping the side chair which they also purchased from Style Garage. These are some great pieces to start with. We now need a coffee table, some statement lighting, a new rug, a console table and some accessories of course! Here's the concept board I put together for them:
Since they already have some modern pieces, I've brought in some French accents with the Louis dining chairs, an ornate ceiling medallion and a vintage gold mirror. I'm hoping to score a vintage or second hand version off Kijiji or Craigslist. I think the modern black swing arm light would be such a nice contrast against a gold ornate mirror. And I've added some Moroccan pieces which really warm up the space like the console table (the pattern reminds me of Moroccan tiles! I love the detail on this), a leather pouf and either a Moroccan or transitional rug to tie in all the colours.
The good news is that most of the pieces are a go but we're still a little undecided on the dining table. Since the dining area is a small space, a smaller table with an extension would be ideal. My clients love to entertain so options for more seating is key. For the light in the dining area, we may be going with a pendant light instead but definitely something modern. Stay tuned for more updates (I'll be sharing more on my Insta stories!) and head over to Calling it Home to check out the other amazing One Room Challenge participants!
What do you think about the pieces I've chosen? I'd love to hear your thoughts about the lighting situation. Also, do you love a good mix of styles in your home? I'd love to know which ones :) Sound off on the comments below! And make sure to check back next Thursday for the Week 4 update!
