I love seeing something ordinary transform into a beautiful and useful piece for your home. Elisa of Fancy Free Me won me over when I spotted this beautiful DIY of hers. Read on to check it out!
Hello! I’m Elisa from Fancy Free Me and I’m so excited to be here on Love on Sunday. I love Amy’s Thrifted Thursday Series, so I was tickled when she asked me to be a part of it! Today I’ll be sharing my favorite thrifted item!
Favourite thrifted item:
My favorite thrifted item is my grandparent’s old metal rolling cart.
Where you bought the piece from:
I got this bad boy from my grandparent's basement.
What drew you to the piece:
My grandparents used this cart to store their laundry soap and cleaning supplies. When I was a kid I used to push it around their basement for fun. So I guess I was a little sentimental about it.
describe any work you did to give it new life:
This poor cart was rusty and it had the worst 70’s yellow paint job. The handles were chrome but again, splattered with paint and rust. It was one of those things people just think you’re crazy for taking. It was even missing a shelf. But, I had plans for this little guy. With a lot of cleaning and a little sanding to smooth out all the old brush marks, I could tell he was going to clean up quite well. I primed the entire piece except for the wheels, and spray painted the handles gold and the shelf/tray white. He also got a glossy clear coat to make the surface ding-free.
How you use/display it:
Normally my cart lives in my kitchen, he gets used to store cookbooks and acts as a mobile counter top, rolling from one side of my kitchen to the other as I’m cooking. I love to roll him over to my pantry, load him up with all the ingredients my meal calls for and roll him back over to my prep station. He also makes for a beautiful temporary bar. The cart is light enough to be moved from room to room, so it gets used a lot.
Thank you so much Amy for having me today! It was so nice sharing my cart with you and your fabulous readers. Feel free to stop over to fancyfreeme.com anytime and say hi (God knows I’m always working on something!) xo
