A Leon's Makeover Story - Part Two

Do you remember what your childhood home looked like? Or are your parents still living in it? For me, it's the latter. I've helped style many spaces over the past year but this one had me a little emotional. Which, by the way is not surprising because I'm a bit of a sap. I grew up in this house so the opportunity to give this space a huge makeover was a task I wasn't about to take lightly. I wanted it to be functional, beautiful and timeless so my parents could enjoy it for many, many years.

If you missed out on part one of this series, I urge you to take a gander at the BEFORE photos. Here's a little peek at the concept board I put together:

A LEON'S MAKEOVER STORY - PART ONE

Sometimes it’s the little things that help shape you as a person but you don’t realize it when it’s happening. When I was a child, my Dad would come home with metal wire puzzles he made at work (he was a welder). He was really crafty and resourceful, always making improvements to our home. From re-tiling the backsplash to installing hardwood floors - I was always watching from the sidelines to see what he would do next. My Mom worked as a government secretary for 40 years but let me tell you, she could wrap a present like nobody’s business – and this was waaaay before Martha Stewart days and long before Pinterest was even a thought. Twine, eucalyptus, ornaments you name it…wrapping Christmas presents was an event at our house and I loved every minute of it.

Since this past August was my parents 40th wedding anniversary, I really wanted to do something special for them.  I wanted to give them a new living room! Head over to the Leon's blog, Hello Yellow to read the full post and see all the before photos HERE !

Happy Holidays!

How is tomorrow Christmas Eve?! I feel like Christmas snuck up on me this year and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. Am I right or am I right? :)

A Living & Dining Room Refresh

When it comes to styling my own living space, I like to take a very relaxed approach to decorating. A few months ago, I partnered with Wayfair to help turn our small little house into a home. Being a business owner and someone who works from home most of the time, I am constantly moving pieces and editing what is around me. I love displaying family heirlooms and also treasures we have found while travelling. I think these are the pieces that are irreplaceable and can bring added warmth and character to your home. But when it comes to splurging on big ticket items, I would usually dish out for a comfy sofa, a wool rug or light fixtures.

We moved into our home a year and half ago and are slowly turning it into a space we love. Here is the before shot of our living and dining area:

And here’s what it looks like now:

I knew I wanted a rug and a mid-century inspired lamp for the dining room. I opted for the Wayfair Gramercy Charcoal Area Rug by Momeni. Wool rugs are the best because they are SO durable and stain resistant. This rug is 100% wool and hand loomed. It’s thick and so soft underfoot which just ups the cozy factor in my books. It also has a subtle texture to it which is perfect as I really wanted to keep it monochromatic and nothing too bold to compete with the accessories and art we had in the space.

Now for the dining room...which is more like a dining area. It's right across from our living space. Since we already have a pendant over the dining table, I wanted something smaller for the console area. I chose the Wayfair 19.3” Table Lamp by Stillnovo. It’s the perfect height and offers just enough light during our cozy, candlelight dinners (doesn’t everything look and taste better with candlelight?!)

If you’re looking to decorate your space on a budget, have a look at wayfair.ca (they’re now in Canada!). They have a large assortment of products for every budget. And, they also offer free shipping on all orders over $75. Working with Wayfair on this project was a dream, both of my products arrived quicker than expected.
